Locomotive Wiki

Weyerhaeuser Timber Company No. 6 is a Class 8 2-6-6-2, built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1928. This engine first served as engine #8 for the Mud Bay Logging Company, first near Olympia, Washington and later at Klamath Falls, Oregon, where it was the Weyerhaeuser Timber Co.'s #6.

After its retirement in 1962, the engine was placed on display in Klamath Falls.

It was gifted to the Puget Sound Historical Railway Association, now known as the Northwest Railway Museum in 1965 by Weyerhaeuser Timber Co. In 1966, #6 was transferred from Klamath Falls to Auburn, WA, and was stored at the NP Auburn shops. #6 was transferred to Snoqualmie with UP #529, NP Snowplow #10, and some other railroad equipment stored at the shops.

She was restored to operation on the now-scrapped Niblock yard, the former main shops for the PSHRA. Originally displayed in the yard, #6 was chosen to be restored to operation on March, 1969, and was back on steam in May of 1969. #6 ran on the museum trackage for many years, and has had a doubleheader with US. Plywood #11, a similar Baldwin 2-6-6-2, before leaving for some heavy rebuilds needed.

#6 was unfortunately taken out of service due to a leakage in the lower tube bundle in the boiler, and some issues on the rear tube sheet, sometime in 1974. The last confirmed operation on the museum trackage was in 1974. #6 was "supposedly" undergoing a restoration, but this was never completed, and #6 sat partially dismantled in the Niblock yard, until the eventual eviction off Niblock Yard property in the 1990's, and is currently sitting in Kimball Creek Yard. There is no current plans to restore #6 to operation.
