The Western Pacific Class M-137 was a class of ten 2-8-8-2 "Chesapeake" type steam locomotives that were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Western Pacific Railroad in 1931.

History

In the late 1920s and early 1930s, the Western Pacific Railroad needed more powerful steam locomotives to pull monstrous freight trains throughout their system, so the Baldwin Locomotive Works had drew up the blueprints for an all new 2-8-8-2 "Chesapeake" type steam locomotive, this resulted in the creation of what had became the Western Pacific Class M-137.

A total of ten examples of these new 2-8-8-2 Western Pacific Railroadtype steam locomotives were ever constructed by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1931 and they were first 6 delivered to the Western Pacific Railroad that same year in 1931 and the last 4 of the 2-8-8-2 were delivered in 1938 which were bought slitly differnt IE the driver wheels and some smaller stuff.

Withdrawal of the Class M-137 had commenced and not a single example of the Class M-137 had survived into the preservation era, they were all scrapped by early 1950s when the Western Pacific Railroad had began to dieselize their lines.
