Western Maryland Scenic Railroad No. 558 is a B32-8 type diesel locomotive built by General Electric (GE) in December 1989, originally for the Norfolk Southern Railway (NS) as their No. 3558. After retirement from the NS, it was sold to Larry's Truck & Electric (LTEX) in McDonald, OH. It was later sold again to the Northern Illinois & Wisconsin Railway (NIWX) in Edinboro, PA for freight service and renumbered to NIWX 558.
Beginning in September 2022, it was leased to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad (WMSR) between Cumberland and Frostburg, MD for excursion service. On December 29, 2023, it was officially acquired by the WMSR alongside sister NIWX B32-8 type locomotive No. 561 (formerly NS 3561), which previously operated on the Everett Railroad in Hollidaysburg, PA prior to being acquired by the NIWX.
As of February 2024, 558 is painted in the WMSR's excursion service paint scheme while 561 is scheduled to be repainted into the same paint scheme as 558 very soon.
