Another locomotive dressed up to resemble the Catoosa in the 1956 film "The Great Locomotive Chase"

The Catoosa was a 4-4-0 "American" type steam locomotive built in January 1857 by Rogers for the Western & Atlantic Railroad as #54.

During the Civil War, the "Catoosa" was one of a few locomotives that operated on the Western & Atlantic railroad designed to haul freight and passenger trains between Atlanta, GA, and Chattanooga, TN.

On April 12, 1862, the Catoosa locomotive was at the Calhoun Station and had to joined the Texas to pursuit the General. After letting the General go by, and seeing the Texas following, they joined the run behind the Texas.

After the war the locomotive continued operating on the Western & Atlantic railroad while still hauling freight trains, and passenger trains.

The Catoosa does not exist anymore because it was melted down for scrap iron in the early part of the 20th century along with The Yonah.
