Wabash No. 573 is a Class F-4 2-6-0 "Mogul" type steam locomotive built in 1899 by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works, which later merged with seven other manufacturers to form Alco.
It was used for freight service on the Wabash Railroad for much of its career.
It was used to carry freight across a bridge over the Illinois River at Bluffs, IL, that would not support the heavier diesel locomotives. The 573 was retained for two years after the railway had dieselised.
Instead of scrapping the engine, the Wabash Railroad donated the locomotive in 1955 to the National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, Missouri where it is still on static display to this day.
