Llywelyn is a 2-6-2 side tank locomotive.

History[]

Llywelyn was built in 1923 at Swindon Works by the Great Western Railway for use on the Vale of Rheidol Railway in Wales. Llywelyn was numbered 8 under the GWR and in 1948 British Railways took the GWR over and Llywelyn was renumbered 98008 but never carried the number. The Vale of Rheidol Railway was the last steam operated line operated by British Railways, No.8 became the second loco on the line to be converted to oil burning in 1979. In the mid 1980s the VoR became a heritage railway and Llywelyn has operated on the VoR ever since being converted back to coal burning in 2012.
