Virginian No. 700 was a Class XA 2-8-8-8-4 Triplex locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1916.

No. 700 was a Triplex locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Virginian Railway in 1916. This locomotive was classified by the Virginian Railway as an "XA", due to the experimental nature of the locomotive.

No. 700 was unsuccessful because it only made a maximum speed of 3–5 miles per hour and had high maintenance costs; some sources say it got as high as 10 mph. Its horsepower and number of kilowatts are a complete mystery as some sources say "nobody knows what horsepower this engine has".

No. 700 was eventually sent back to the Baldwin Locomotive Works, having "never made a successful trip". The locomotive was taken apart in 1920 and it was converted into a 2-8-8-0 and 2-8-2 respectively; the 2-8-8-0 was renumbered 610 and reclassified AF and the 2-8-2 was renumbered 410 and reclassified MD. 610 gained a trailing truck in 1942, becoming a 2-8-8-2. Both locomotives operated until 1953; neither has been preserved.
