The Utah State Railroad Museum also known as Ogden Union Station, is a train station in Ogden, Utah, at the west end of Historic 25th Street, just south of the Ogden Intermodal Transit Center. It is also part of the Ogden Union Station, the focal point of the Crossroads of the West National Historic District and the single most important railroad station in the American West.
History[]
After the famous ceremonial driving of the Golden Spike at Promontory Summit on May 10, 1869, the Central Pacific and Union Pacific agreed that Ogden would become the new Junction City. Historically, the Ogden Union Station served as the junction between three major transcontinental railroad routes: Union Pacific, Southern Pacific, and the Denver & Rio Grande Western, in addition to several local rail lines.
Today, the Utah State Railroad Museum consists of a large indoor exhibit, a massive HO scale model railroad depicting scenes on the Transcontinental Railroad, an impressive collection of full-size railroad equipment, and a library and archive.
