Union Pacific No. 9018 was one of the 88 members of the Union Pacific 9000 Class built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) between 1926–1930.

Beginning[]

Union Pacific No. 9018 was constructed by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) as one of the 88 members of the Union Pacific 9000 Class that were constructed by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) between 1926–1930.

Accident[]

On October 20, 1948, while Union Pacific No. 9018 was operating at upland Kansas, as soon as the locomotive moved forward, the 9018 had suffered a crown sheet failure, which resulted in a catastrophic boiler explosion, the explosion killed three people, the engineer, the fireman and brakeman of the 9018.

Fate[]

It's unknown what happened to Union Pacific No. 9018 after the accident, but it was likely scrapped after the class was slowly being withdrawn in the 1950s.
