Union Pacific No. 838 (or simply UP 838) is an FEF-3 class 4-8-4 Northern-type steam locomotive owned by the Union Pacific Railroad. The 838 was built in December 1944 by the American Locomotive Company for the Union Pacific railroad.

838 was used for passenger service on the Union Pacific railroad for much of its career, hauling freight trains when needed. 838 was retired from service in July 1962 after a few years of storage, and it was stored at the UP's Cheyenne roundhouse in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1977. As of today the engine is stored at the UP's Cheyenne, Wyoming roundhouse, serving as a source of spare parts for 844, although almost all, if not all usable parts have been swapped. It has often been reported No. 838's running gear and boiler are in much better condition due to 844's extensive use in excursion service, but because it has been stripped of all parts, it would not be economically viable to return 838 to service.
