Locomotive Wiki

Union Pacific No. 2537 is a class MK-7 2-8-2 "Mikado" type steam locomotive that was originally built for the Union Pacific Railroad as 2482 by the American Locomotive Company's Schenectady Works in December 1918.

History and Background[]

Primarily used in freight service with all other members of the Class, #2537 was part of an order for twenty USRA Light Mikado's built in 1918 to 1919 (Numbered #2535 to #2554) for the Union Pacific Railroad's Oregon Short Line Railway. All were built with Type D Duplex Mechanical stokers and were Coal-Fired. A well-liked design on the UP, they all remained in service until after World War II as the #2537 made it's last run around 1956 when it was put into storage as Diesel power came on scene. In July 1959, the No. 2537 was donated to the City of Walla Walla, Washington and placed on static display in Jefferson Park along with a Class CA-13 Rock Island bay window caboose where the two have remained on static display ever since.
