The Union Pacific Class S-5 were a series of 0-6-0 "Switcher" type steam locomotives that operated on the Union Pacific Railroad. Designated as the 5th S series.
History[]
These locomotives were built in 1918 for the Union Pacific with forty-five of them built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. During its early career, they worked in Cheyenne, WY. Later, they served on the Los Angeles Harbor Belt line until its operation was ended on the order of the Air Pollution Control Board in 1957.
Most of the class was scrapped but several members survived into preservation.
