The Union Pacific 7000 or Up 7000 are a steam locomotive class with a wheel arrangement of 4-8-2. Meaning it had 4 wheels on the piloting truck, 8 coupled drivers and 2 wheels on the trailing truck. The Mountain Class locomotives had 73 inch diameter drive wheels, had a maximum boiler pressure of 200, and produced around 54,838 pounds of tractive effort.
Ordering and service[]
The first set was ordered and delivered to the Union Pacific Railroad in 1922. The first set were numbered 7000-7039. The second set was ordered and put into service in 1923. The second set were numbered 7850-7864. The third and final set were numbered 7865-7869 and were ordered and put into service in 1924. The 7000's ran hundreds of thousands of miles during their years in service.
Retirement and scrapping[]
The 7000 class were retired after the 800 series northerns were put into service in 1937. All of the 7000's were sadly scrapped.
