Toshiba Corporation is a Japanese multi-national conglomerate company involved in numerous business sectors.

The company's history dates back to 1875 with the founding of Tanaka Seisakusho, founded by Hisashige Tanaka and was the first company in Japan to manufacture telegraph equipment. The company was declared insolvent in 1893 and became known as Shibaura Seisakusho. Shibaura merged with Tokyo Denki in 1939 to create the Tokyo Shibaura Electric Company, which then became Toshiba (Tokyo Shibaura). Their main products now include batteries, elevators, escalators and other electric components and is noted for being the inventor of flash memory.

Toshiba is also involved in the rolling stock sector, mainly manufacturing underbody equipment for electric locomotives; they also have manufactured locomotives, doing so under their Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions arm.
