The Toei 6300 series is a Japanese city commuter electric multiple unit operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation (Toei) since June 1993 on the Toei Mita Line.
History[]
The 6300 series sets were designed for the sole purpose of replacing the old 6000 series trains on the Toei Mita Line, which were by then nearing 25 years of operation at the time; a second goal was to put an air-conditioned train into service on the line. The first sets began operation on 23 June 1993, with all 6000 series cars being replaced by 1999. A total of 37 sets were produced in three batches.
Refurbishments of the sets took place from 2005 to 2011 and again since 2016. As the sets had been used for some 20 years as of 2022, Toei considered a replacement of the sets, announcing the introduction of the 6500 series sets to replace the first two batches of sets, with the first 6500 series sets introduced into service in May 2022.
Design[]
The 6300 series cars use a contemporary design featuring a flat front and trapezoidal headlight casings. A blue livery is used on the sets to signify its use on the Mita Line. The sets feature some curved portions, particularly their front windshields. The train was designed with a high-speed image in mind, as well as evoking a "near future" and high-tech image. The front windshields feature a glass film.
All three batches of the sets can be identified at a glance by looking at their pilots; first batch sets do not feature a pilot, second batch sets feature a full pilot while the third batch sets feature a partial front pilot. Other minor design details are also different between all three batches.
Variations[]
Specifications[]
Construction of the cars is of a lightweight stainless steel.
The first two batches of 6300 sets use Mitsubishi and Hitachi gate turn-off thyristors; both produce a wailing noise which rises in pitch. Third batch sets feature Mitsubishi IGBT drives which produce a hissing sound which increases in intensity.
