The Toden 800 series was a Japanese streetcar type operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation (Toei) on the Tokyo Toden network from September 1947 to January 1968.

History

The 800 series was a series of streetcars manufactured for the Tokyo Toden network; the cars were essentially an improvement of the 700 series, with the cars being introduced as an "extension" to this series and to replace some of the 700 series cars destroyed during World War II. The cars entered service on 1 September 1947; 40 cars were manufactured in total.

The first three cars were manufactured with the numbers 713, 714 and 725 as they were viewed as an "extension" to the 700 series cars, but all following cars were given the 800 series classification and the three cars were renumbered accordingly to 801, 802 and 823. Mainly based at Waseda Depot, the 800 series cars were mainly used on Route 15. The abolition of a significant number of lines on the Toden network starting in the mid-1960s resulted in the withdrawals of many of Toden's streetcar types, with withdrawals commencing in August 1967; all cars were withdrawn by January 1968.

No 800 series cars have been preserved.

Design

The 800 series cars had a similar design to the 700 series cars.

Construction was of steel. Electrical systems for the streetcars were manufactured by Mitsubishi.
