The Toden 7700 series is a Japanese streetcar type operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation (Toei) on the Tokyo Toden network since May 2016.
History[]
The 7700 series is a series of streetcars manufactured for the Tokyo Toden network; the cars are a modification of the 7000 series cars introduced in 1955, reusing the car bodies and internal fittings but with updates to much of their major electrical equipment. A total of eight 7000 series cars were rebuilt between 2016 and 2017 by Keio Juuki Seibi at their Kitano Works; 7007, 7026, 7031, 7015, 7018, 7024, 7005 and 7010 were rebuilt to become cars 7701 through 7708 respectively. The first cars entered service on 30 May 2016; with the introduction of this series, future production of 8900 series cars was stopped, with only eight cars produced out of a planned sixteen-car order.

Being converted from 7000 series cars, the 7700 series cars are identical in appearance to those of the 7000 series. They are painted in retro-inspired green, blue and maroon paintschemes by a team of young Toei employees, named the "Arakawa Line Appeal Project Team".
Specifications[]

The trains are virtually identical to the 7000 series in specification except they now use Tōyō Denki IGBT traction systems based on that of the 8900 series. Similar to the 8900 series, the 7700 series cars are equipped with a music box-like warning device or musical horn, officially named as a "melody horn that is gentle on the ears".
