Tasmanian Government Railway No. M5 is an M class 4-6-2 "Pacific" Type steam locomotive built in 1952 by Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns Ltd of Darlington, England.
It spent much of its life working trains in northern Tasmania on the Tasmanian Government Railway where it worked hauling passenger trains, and freight trains until 1971 when it was retired.
It was Acquired by the Tasmanian Transport Museum in 1973 where it worked on rail tours until the museum was isolated from the rail network.
As of Today it's operational at the Tasmanian Transport Museum.
