New York, Susquehanna & Western No. 142 is a SY class 2-8-2 "Mikado" type steam locomotive built by the Tangshan Locomotive Works in 1989 in China for the Valley Railroad in Essex, Connecticut.
It ran on the Valley Railroad in 1990 and 1991 as their No. 1647. The Susquehanna Railroad purchased an identical locomotive from Tangshan in 1991, but the ship carrying it sank in the Bay of Bengal. In 1992 the Susquehanna bought the 1647 from the Valley, and renumbered it to No. 142.
Today, it is owned by the New York, Susquehanna, & Western Technical Historical Society and operated on excursions out of Phillipsburg, New Jersey.
