History[]
Stainz is an 0-4-0 narrow-gauge side tank engine steam locomotive built in 1892 by the Krauss locomotive works (Linz) for the Styrian State Railways and was first used on the construction of the Salzkammergut - Lokalbahn in the 1890s. Later the locomotive was used for shunting service at the depot of Mur Valley. Stainz No.2 in 1969 was transferred on to the Murtalbahn (Mur Valley Railway) after being repaired and being important modified in 1967 for rail enthusiast trains until the year 2000. It then continued operations on the Mur Valley Railway until 2008. It is has recently returned to steam following being displayed for a period of time.[1][2][3][4][5]

- The Stainz is the face of the LGB Trains brand, a model railway Manufacturer in Germany. For which Stainz formed the prototype of it's first produced model locomotive and is now the Stainz's form is the logo of the LGB company.
- Stainz's iconic name comes from a small village in the Mur Valley that the Styrian State Railways served.
