A picture of SR's No. 1102
Southern Railway 1102 was a 4-6-0 Baldwin Class F-14 steam locomotive built in 1903 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Southern Railway. The engine gained notoriety for its wreck while taking the Fast Mail, dubbed The Wreck of the Old 97 - which occurred on September 27, 1903, less than a year after it was built. The incident claimed the lives of 11 people, and injured 6 others.
After the wreck of 1903, it was rebuilt and remained in service until its scrapping on July 9, 1935, at the Southern Railway's Princeton Shops.
