Southern Pacific No. 7529 was an SD45R diesel locomotive built by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) for the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1969.

History[]

Southern Pacific No. 7529 was built in 1969 and entered service on the Southern Pacific Railroad the same year in 1969.

When it was first built, it was first built as SD45 #9012 and given the classification of EF636-2, but due to the massive 20-cylinder engines causing them to have a very bad fuel mileage and coupled with the crankshaft failures, it was rebuilt into an EMD SD45R and renumbered from 9012 to 7529 in 1984, it would be reclassified by the Southern Pacific as EF636LR-1.

It had lasted into the days of Union Pacific when Southern Pacific and its parent company Rio Grande Industries had merged into Union Pacific.

It would be retired from service on the Union Pacific in 1999 and its current whereabouts are currently known.
