Southern Pacific No. 4307 is a class MT-1 4-8-2 "Mountain" type steam locomotive built by Alco Schenectady in 1923 for the Southern Pacific Railroad.
History[]
It entered service, and was use of passengers trains, and was eventually ended up in every kind of service as more powerful engines were bought.
When the diesels replace steam in the late 1950s it was retired, and was sold for scrap.
Trivia[]
The 4307 was briefly pictured in the movie son of Dracula.
- The installation of multiple bearing crossheads and disc wheels was not always simultaneous, some engines did not get both, and some got neither (4300, 4307, 4308, 4311, 4318, 4319). Only occasionally were disc drivers and multiple bearing crossheads added when the skyline case was installed.
- It was one of 28 MT-1 engines that were delivered in two batches of 10 in 1923 and the other 18 in 1924.
