Locomotive Wiki

Southern Pacific No. 4274 was a class AC-11 4-8-8-2 "Cab-Forward" type steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1943 and one of the last steam locomotives delivered to the Southern Pacific Railroad (SP) in America during World War 2 .

It was put into storage in 1956, but was fired up in 1957 for the last steam-hauled service - an excursion train - over Donner Pass, known to be the Cab-Forwards' stomping ground. After the excursion was finished, the 4274 was retired and scrapped the same year.
