Southern Pacific No. 3100 is a preserved GE U25B diesel electric locomotive.

History[]

Southern Pacific No. 3100 was first constructed on March 29, 1963 by General Electric as one of the GE U25B locomotives that were built by General Electric for the Southern Pacific Railroad. It was first numbered as No. 7508 and had that number until 1965, when it was renumbered to No. 6708 and retained that number until 1975 when it was rebuilt into a U25BE and renumbered again, this time it was renumbered to No. 6800.

It retained the number 6800 until 1979 when it was given its final number of 3100 and was given its classification of GF425-1. It was retired from active service and sold off to Levin Metals in Colton on January 22, 1988. It would eventually be donated to the Orange Empire Railway Museum in operational condition.

As of today, Southern Pacific No. 3100 is currently operational at the Orange Empire Railway Museum and still operates at the Orange Empire Railway Museum to this day.

Trivia[]

  • When the Bicentennial event had occurred, it was repainted an red, white, and blue color scheme in 1976.
