Southern Pacific No. 1520 was an EMD SD7 that was built by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) for the Southern Pacific Railroad in September of 1953.

Southern Pacific No. 1520 was built in September of 1953 for the Southern Pacific Railroad and was delivered to the Southern Pacific Railroad that same year in 1953.

Upon being delivered to the Southern Pacific Railroad, it was originally numbered as #5324, then in 1965, #5324 was renumbered as 2731 until in 1973 to make room for new MP15 switchers and renumbered as #1431. The locomotive entered the G.R.I.P. program and emerged as #1520 on February 13th, 1980.
