Southern Pacific No. 1504 was an EMD SD7R that was built by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) for the Southern Pacific Railroad in August 1953.

History[]

Southern Pacific No. 1504 was built in August 1953 for the Southern Pacific Railroad and was delivered to the Southern Pacific Railroad that same year in 1953 where it was first numbered as No. 5319. It was first built with a steam generator and along with twin 1200-gallon tanks.

In 1965, No. 5319, the unit was renumbered by the Southern Pacific as No. 2726 and before it would be renumbered to No. 1426 in 1974. The unit was rebuilt into an EMD SD7R at Sacramento, California as part of the GRIP program, it had eventually emerged from the works as No. 1504 in June 1979.

No. 1504 remained in service on the Southern Pacific until it was retired from service in November 1995 and it was sold to Progress Rail.
