Southern Pacific Class EF636-13

The Southern Pacific Class EF636-13 (also known as the Southern Pacific Class EP636-1) was a class of ten EMD SDP45 locomotives built by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) for the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1967.

History[]

In all, a total of ten locomotives of what had first became the Southern Pacific Class EP636-1 were ever constructed in 1967 by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) and they were all delivered to the Southern Pacific Railroad that same year in 1967.

In 1985, all ten locomotives were reclassified into what had became the Class EF636-13 to be tried out in freight service on the Southern Pacific Railroad.

All ten locomotives were retired from active service between 1986 and 1991, and not a single one of the Southern Pacific's EF636-13 locomotives were preserved, they were all scrapped between 1988 and the mid-to-late 1990s, with #3200 being scrapped in 1992, #3201 being scrapped in 1996, #3202 being scrapped in an unknown date, #3203 being scrapped in 1992, #3204 being scrapped in an unknown date, #3205 being scrapped in 1988, #3206 being scrapped in 1996, #3207 being scrapped in December 1996, #3208 being scrapped in 1988 and #3209 being scrapped in March 1990, this had rendered the Southern Pacific Class EF636-13 locomotives completely extinct.

Accidents and Incidents[]

#3200 was involved in a fire that destroyed the locomotive in 1989, it was deemed "damage-beyond-repair" and was retired in 1990 and scrapped in 1992.
