Soo Line No. 1003 is a restored L-1 class 2-8-2 "Mikado" type steam locomotive built in March 1913 by the American Locomotive Company. It was designed for freight service which it did until retirement in August 1959. it was donated to the city of Superior, Wisconsin on December 30, 1959, and placed on static display. It was bought by the Wisconsin Steam Locomotive Heritage Association in 1993, who took on the task of putting the locomotive back to working order. In 1996, it arose from its thirty-seven year slumber, and so it operated successfully for the next 14 years. It was rebuilt again in 2011, and returned to service in October the following year. 1003 is currently in use pulling tourist trains, and is based at the Wisconsin Automotive Museum in Hartford, Wisconsin.
