History[]
The C.W Saunders was built by the portland company in 1876 for the Sawyer river railroad in Livermore NH. She was a 30 short-ton 0-4-0 and was the only locomotive of the line until 1920 when she was wrecked beyond repair after a bad fall into the river. It is said that she suffered over 33 derailments from 1876-1920. The tender alone was replaced 3 times, first with a slopeback to replace the original, then a home-built one made from a logging disconnect.
