The Sapporo Streetcar A850 series was a Japanese connected streetcar type operated by the Sapporo Municipal Transport Bureau on the Sapporo Streetcar network from June 1965 to May 1974.
History[]
The A850 series cars was a series of connected streetcars manufactured for the Sapporo Streetcar network. A total of five two-car sets were manufactured in June 1965 by the Sapporo Sogo Kōgyō Cooperative, a cooperative of a number of minor rolling stock manufacturing companies based in Sapporo. using equipment from retired streetcars; these were the last trains produced by the cooperative before its dissolution.
Operation began in June 1965. The sets were retired in May 1974 with the abolition of a significant number of routes on the Sapporo Streetcar network. No A850 series cars have been preserved.
Design[]
The A850 series cars featured a boxy design. The cars were painted in the Sapporo Municipal Transport Bureau's corporate colors of a tan body with green accents.
Specifications[]
Construction of the cars was of steel. The cars used a nose suspension drive system and rode on Sumitomo KS-40 or FS-71 bogies.
The sets reused many parts from scrapped streetcars; the bodies were sourced from 570 and 580 series streetcars. The electronics were manufactured from new.
