The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe 3010 Series was a class of 2-10-2 "Santa Fe" type steam locomotive that were rebuilds from the experimental (and now extinct) 3000 Class of 2-10-10-2s.
History[]
Beginning[]
In the Late 1910s, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway was in a tight spot following the questionable results from their experimental 2-10-10-2 Series known to be the 3000 Class, and they decided to try and recycle those articulated engines into 20 different locomotives, so between 1915–1918, they cut up all 10 examples of the ATSF 3000 Class and recycled them into 20 2-10-2 locomotives, the end result was the ATSF 3010 Series.
Disposition[]
All ten examples of the 3010 Series were withdrawn between 1945-1953 and they were all cut up between 1947-1953, thus rendering the ATSF 3010 Series extinct.
