The C830C (Contract 830C) is a Singaporean rapid transit electric multiple unit operated by the Singapore Mass Rapid Transit since June 2015 on the Circle Line.

History[]

The C830Cs were produced for use on the Circle Line, produced to boost the capacity of the line. The trains were built in Shanghai by Shanghai Alstom Transport, a joint consortium between Alstom and Shanghai Electric. The first set, 843, entered service on 26 June 2015.

Design[]

Car bodies are constructed of welded aluminum. The sets are equipped with a variation on the "Blackbird" corporate livery of SMRT Trains, featuring a white body with black accents and a red stripe running down the side. The SMRT roundel is emblazoned on the front detrainment door. A warm orange LED display at the top left of the train displays the train running number; unlike the C830s, in which the train running number is only displayed on the leading cab car, the train running number is displayed on both the leading and trailing cab cars.

In terms of appearance, the C830Cs have a nearly identical appearance to that of the C751Cs, both built around the same time by Shanghai Alstom Transport. A C830C may be differentiated visually from a C830 through the former's use of bright white LED headlights as opposed to halogen units, as well as two stickers near a recess on the detrainment doors warning people to keep clear of the detrainment door. The recess on this detrainment door, compared to the C830s, is significantly deeper.

Internally, the C830Cs feature wider Train Traveller Information System displays compared to the C830s, dark gray door panels and grab handles which match the seat colors of each car. Reserved seats are colored red. The route map used on the C830Cs is the Dynamic Route Map Display, featuring sets of LEDs to inform travelers of their destination. A yellow beacon above the door flashes when the doors are about to close.

Specifications[]

Onboard recording

The C830Cs are a type of fully-automated rolling stock on the Singapore rapid transit network. Alstom's URBALIS 300 CBTC system is used to control the trains. The trains are equipped with Alstom's Opt-ONiX IGBT variable frequency drive system; these produce a wailing sound on acceleration and are significantly louder than the C830s. The Opt-ONiX system was developed specifically by Alstom for the Chinese market and is also used on future trains produced by Alstom for the Singaporean market.
