The C801 (Contract 801), also known as the ECX, is a Singaporean automated people mover operated by the Singapore Mass Rapid Transit since November 1999 on the Bukit Panjang LRT Line.
History[]
The C801s were produced for use on the Bukit Panjang LRT Line and are the first rolling stock to be used on that line. The trains were built from 1997 to 1999 by Adtranz GmbH at their plant in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania. The first train was delivered in January 1999, with operations commencing in November the same year.
No major refurbishments on the C801s are to be carried out as they are to be replaced following the end of their lifespan; they will be replaced with the C801Bs some time in the 2020s.
Withdrawals began on 26 November 2023, starting with car 101. All cars are expected to be withdrawn by September 2025.
Design[]
Car bodies are constructed of aluminum. The sets are painted with a white body with teal accents and a red accent stripe to represent the SMRT Corporation, the company which owns these locomotives. When initially entering service, the sets had a similar livery but had a light cyan accent stripe as opposed to red to represent the now-defunct SLRT Corporation, now a part of the larger SMRT Corporation.
LCD screens were present in the trains but have since been deactivated and removed due to a lack of demand. Most of the trains feature at least one pair of bright white LED headlights, replacing the older halogen bulb headlights there were originally equipped with. Each train features smart glass which tints in range of public housing for privacy reasons.

The C801s are the first generation of automated people movers used on the Singapore's rail transit network. Bombardier's CITYFLO 550 fixed block system is used to control the trains. The trains are equipped with a Bombardier thyristor drive system powering Bombardier 1460-P4 traction motors, causing a "spooling up" sound as the train accelerates.
