The C751C (Contract 751C) is a Singaporean rapid transit electric multiple unit operated by the Singapore Mass Rapid Transit since October 2015 on the North East Line.

History[]

The C751Cs were produced for use on the North East Line, produced to increase the capacity of the line; the North East Line is notable as being the world's first fully-automated heavy rail system. The trains were built in Shanghai by Shanghai Alstom Transport, a joint consortium between Alstom and Shanghai Electric. The first set, 7055/7056, entered service on 1 October 2015.

Design[]

Car bodies are constructed of welded aluminum. The sets are equipped with the first corporate livery of SBS Transit, featuring a white body with black accents and two purple and orange stripes. The SBS Transit logo is emblazoned on the front detrainment door. A warm orange LED display at the top left of the train displays the train running number.

In terms of appearance, the C751Cs have a nearly identical appearance to that of the C830Cs, both built around the same time by Shanghai Alstom Transport. A C751C may be differentiated from a C751A through the presence of an additional window at the front of the detrainment door, with the sets featuring a new detrainment door system. The sets also feature bright white LED headlights as opposed to orange halogen units.

Internally, the C751Cs can be distinguished from C751As via their Dynamic Route Map Displays, purplish blue seats and grab handles which match the seat colors. Reserved seats are colored red. The sets also feature a gray and white paint scheme on their interiors as opposed to beige for unrefurbished C751As. The C751Cs are also fitted with a similar passenger information system to the C751As, known as the Visual Passenger Information System. The text for the VPIS system is shown in a more vibrant green compared to the C751As; unlike the C751As, the C751C's VPIS system is only known to be able to show green-colored text.

All C751Cs feature a loud beeping tone informing passengers of the train doors closing independent of the on-train announcements, with a yellow beacon on the top of the doors turning on to inform passengers of the closing doors, as well as a siren sound effect to warn passengers at terminal stations that the train is about to depart.

The C751Cs are a type of fully-automated rolling stock on the Singapore rapid transit network. Alstom's URBALIS 300 CBTC system is used to control the trains. The trains are equipped with Alstom's Opt-ONiX IGBT variable frequency drive system; these produce a wailing sound on acceleration which steps up in pitch. The Opt-ONiX system was developed specifically by Alstom for the Chinese market and is also used on future trains produced by Alstom for the Singaporean market.

Unlike most trains on the MRT, the C751C uses a pantograph to collect power as opposed to collector shoes. A new type of pantograph is used on the C751C.
