The Soviet State Railways P12 Class (2-3-2K) were 4-6-4 streamlined tender steam locomotives.
History[]
In 1937, two were built by the Kolomna Locomotive Works. These were known as the 2-3-2K locomotives, designed by Lev Lebedyanskii and rated at 3,070 horsepower (2,290 kilowatts). Designated the P12 series, they were used to haul the Red Arrow passenger train between Moscow and Leningrad. The intention was to build up to ten 2-3-2K locomotives to haul all express passenger trains between Moscow and Leningrad, but these plans were interrupted by the Second World War and not resumed.[1][2][3]
Preservation[]
None of the two locomotives built was ever preserved with their known documentation ending after the war in 1957/58. Likely having been scrapped due to not being a standard design compatible with other operating locomotives on the network.[1][2][3]
