"Russian decapods" is a nickname for the 2-10-0s built for Russia during WWI. The variety varies from other 2-10-0 designs by being smaller and lighter than decapods designed for use in the US, as they needed to fit the lighter Russian loading gauge. Intended for Russia, their change into the United Socialist Soviet Republic prevented the decapods from being sent over. American railroads adopted them, but soon transferred them to shortlines and smaller railroads, as they proved to be too light on the larger railroads. A multitude of these engines survive today, the most well known being St. Louis San Francisco (Frisco) No. 1630, which operates at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL.
