D&RGW No. 485 was a K-36 class 2-8-2 "Mikado" type narrow gauge steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1925 for the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW). Unfortunately, it was the only member of the K-36 class that was never preserved, as it fell in the turntable pit in Salida, CO in 1953 and was later scrapped in Pueblo, CO in 1955.
History[]
No. 485 was a K-36 class narrow gauge steam locomotive that ran for the Denver & Rio Grande Western (D&RGW) until its unfortunate retirement in 1953. In 1953, No. 485 fell into a turntable pit in Salida, CO and was heavily damaged beyond repair. The locomotive was placed on a flat car as a source of spare parts in Pueblo, CO until it was ultimately scrapped in 1955, becoming the only member of the K-36 class to be scrapped.
