C&TS No. 484 is a K-36 class 2-8-2 "Mikado" type narrow gauge steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, PA in 1925 for the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW). As of today, it remains operational as a permanent resident on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (C&TS) between Antonito, CO and Chama, NM, part of the old D&RGW narrow gauge system. It is one of four operational class K-36 locomotives on the C&TS restored to excursion service in 1971, the others being Nos. 487, 488, and 489, the latter of which was converted to burn oil in early June 2021. According to the president and CEO of the C&TS, Scott Gibbs, it is scheduled to be taken out of service temporarily for its Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) mandated 1,472-day boiler inspection and overhaul at the end of the 2025 operating season in October 2025.
