Reading No. 2123 was a T-1 class 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotive, originally built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, PA in 1924 as a I10SA class 2-8-0 "Consolidation type locomotive, and later rebuilt into a 4-8-4 by the Reading Shops in 1947.
History[]
It was designed to haul freight, mostly coal traffic, while the last ten haul passenger trains but, except for a few troop trains, mainly hauled freight.
In 1959, the locomotive was retired from service and it was saved to be used as a spare parts source for the locomotives used on the Iron Horse Rambles excursions, those being Reading Nos. 2100, 2102, and 2124, and was eventually scrapped in 1966.
