Green Goddess is a green 4-6-2 tender steam locomotive.

History[]

Green Goddess was built in 1925 by Davey Paxman and company to an order by Count. Louis Zborowski to a design by Henry Greenly based on the design of the LNER A1 class. When Green Goddess was finished for the price of £1,250 the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway hadn't been completed and so Green Goddess underwent trials on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway where it used a Wilcox whistle.[1][2][3][4][5]

On the 10th of September in 2016, Green Goddess was seriously derailed an tipped on it's side beside the track as the train was struck with an overloaded tractor at crossing number ten around half a mile from Dymchurch station. The driver and four passenger sustained minor injuries. This is currently Green Goddess' only recorded accident. The locomotive is currently operational and is in service currently using an ex-black 5 LMS Stanier hooter, on loan from Andy Nash and is painted in LNER Apple Green.[1][2][3][4][5]
