Quincy Railroad No. 2 is a tank engine built by Alco's Schenectady works in 1924. It spent its entire freight-hauling career working for the Quincy Railroad. The Quincy Railroad purchased No. 2 to replace engine No. 1, a much smaller 0-4-4T locomotive that weighed 37 tons.
During the 1970s and early 1980s, it operated on the Castro Point Railway in Richmond, California and was shipped to Canada in 1986 to make an appearance for Expo 86. After returning to California, it was placed into storage until it was moved to the Niles Canyon Railway in 1990 for restoration.
The restoration was completed in 1992 where it pulled passenger excursion trains on a regular schedule until August 2000, when it underwent a major overhaul. It returned to service once again in 2002, and regularly operated until 2017, where it was put out of service for its 1,472 day-inspection. Today, it is currently sidelined, as there is a lack of skilled volunteers and funds to perform the inspection.
