Portland and Western No. 1501 (formerly known as Southern Pacific No. 1530) was an EMD SD7 that was built by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) for the Southern Pacific Railroad in November 1952.

History[]

Portland and Western No. 1501 was manufactured in November 1952 for the Southern Pacific Railroad originally as Southern Pacific No. 1530 and was delivered to the Southern Pacific Railroad that same year in 1952.

When it was first built, it was first numbered as 5280, but would be renumbered to 2701 and then renumbered again to 1401, it was then given its final number of 1530.

It remained in service on the Southern Pacific until it would be retired from service and later given to the Portland and Western Railroad (PNWR) for preservation, where it was renumbered to 1501.

As of 2023, the locomotive has been retired following G&W's EPA emissions scandal and has been sold (under contract from Dieselmotive Company, Inc./Bruggere and Monson Railroad (BUGX)). As of 2025, the locomotive is stored in Blackwell, OK.
