The Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad (PSVRR) is an organization that runs excursion trains on the western portion of the historic Folsom Placerville branch of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Excursions are ran within the city of Folsom, California.

History[]

The Historic Placerville and Sacramento valley line was laid in the 1850s by the Sacramento Valley Railroad to accommodate the prospective miners traveling to gold country to seek their riches. The first railroad to operate with the name Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad was founded on June 12, 1862 and the track continued expansion from Folsom to Placerville until the line was purchased by the Southern Pacific Railroad. The SPR continued to run the line until 1989. The line began tourist operations in 2010 and has been expanding it's rolling stock and operations ever since.

Current Operations[]

As of January 2024 the line is only running motor cars with small passenger carriages a few times a year.

Future Plans[]

It is hoped to invest enough in maintenance to enable full sized locomotive operations again. Steam operations are planned when Santa Cruz Portland Cement No. 2 returns from the California Western. The ultimate stretch goal is to repair the entire line to allow excursions through it.
