Pere Marquette Mikado Series

The Pere Marquette Mikado Series was a series of 2-8-2 "Mikado" type steam locomotives that were built by several locomotive builders for the Pere Marquette Railway.

MK[]

In the 1910s, the Pere Marquette Railway needed more powerful locomotives to operate on their system, so the Baldwin Locomotive Works who was tasked on building a steam locomotive had went back to the drawing board to draw up plans of the new steam locomotive for the Pere Marquette Railway. Enter the Pere Marquette Class MK, a total of ten were constructed by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and they were all delivered to the Pere Marquette Railway in 1913.

All examples were added to the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway's roster when the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway had acquired the Pere Marquette Railway. They were all retired from active service on the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway, and not a single one of the Pere Marquette Class MK were preserved, they were all scrapped, thus rendering them extinct.

All that's left of the Pere Marquette Class MK is one surviving Nickel Plate Road Mikado, No. 587.

MK-1[]

A total of 30 examples of what had became the Pere Marquette Class MK-1 were ever constructed and they were all delivered to the Pere Marquette Railway in 1918.

All examples were added to the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway's roster when the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway had acquired the Pere Marquette Railway. They were all retired from active service on the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway, and not a single one of the Pere Marquette Class MK-1 were preserved, they were all scrapped, thus rendering them extinct.

All that's left of the Pere Marquette Class MK-1 is one surviving Nickel Plate Road Mikado, No. 587.

MK-2[]

Enter the Pere Marquette Class MK-6, a total of five examples were constructed by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) and the Baldwin Locomotive Works and they were all delivered to the Erie Railroad in 1913. All five examples were acquired by the Pere Marquette Railway in 1929, and they were all added to the Pere Marquette Railway's roster in 1929.

All examples were added to the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway's roster when the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway had acquired the Pere Marquette Railway. They were all retired from active service on the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway, and not a single one of the Pere Marquette Class MK-6 were preserved, they were all scrapped in 1949, thus rendering them extinct.

All that's left of the Pere Marquette Class MK-6 is one surviving Nickel Plate Road Mikado, No. 587.
