The G1s were former D class 4-6-0 steam locomotives built for the Pennsylvania Railroad from around 1868-1875. They were designed for general freight service. A few have been sold to other railroads. 157 were converted to G1a with smaller drivers in the late 1878 to early 1882, most were scrapped or sold in the 1890s with a few lasting into the first few years of the 20th Century.
