Pennsylvania Railroad No. 5764 was an EMD E8 locomotive that was built by the Electro-Motive Division for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1952.

History[]

Pennsylvania Railroad No. 5764 was constructed in 1952 by the Electro-Motive Division as one of the 74 EMD E8 locomotives that the Pennsylvania Railroad had ever received, it was delivered to the Pennsylvania Railroad that same year in 1952.

It was in fact, the final passenger diesel ever built for the Pennsylvania Railroad. It had lasted into the days of the Penn Central merger where it was renumbered by PC as No. 4264, when Penn Central had filed for bankruptcy in 1970 and had collapsed into obscurity post-bankruptcy, No. 5764 (PC #4264) was sold to Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) where it retained its Penn Central number #4264, then offered to the BDT where it was renumbered back to its PRR Number, #5764.

It was last used in operation by the Tennessee Central Railroad and was donated to the Monticello Railway Museum were it is currently undergoing a restoration, when the restoration is completed, it has been said that it will emerge from the works as Illinois Central No. 4044.
