Pennsylvania Railroad No. 1458 was a class K2 4-6-2 "Pacific" type steam locomotive that were built by the Pennsylvania Railroad themselves at their own Juniata Shops in 1910.

History[]

Pennsylvania Railroad No. 1458 was one of the 72 examples of the Pennsylvania Railroad Class K2 steam locomotives that were constructed by the Pennsylvania Railroad themselves at their own Juniata Shops in 1910 as part of their K Series.

No. 1458 was often leased to work on the Long Island Railroad, a subsidiary of the Pennsylvania Railroad.

No. 1458 was withdrawn during the withdrawal of the Pennsylvania Railroad Class K2 and it wasn't set aside for preservation, it would wind up being scrapped after being retired from active service.

Not a single example of the Class K2 was preserved as they were all scrapped after the Pennsylvania Railroad had dieselized. All that's left of the Pennsylvania Railroad Class K2 locomotives as well as No. 1458, are two surviving K4 Pacifics, Nos. 1361 and 3750.
