The PKP Class EW55 is a class of electric multiple unit built by Pafawag for the Polish State Railways (PKP).
History[]
In the late 1950s, the Polish State Railways (PKP) needed more electric multiple units for usage on their system, so Pafawag, who was tasked on constructing more electric multiple units for Polish State Railways had constructed and delivered 72 examples of what became the PKP Class EW55.
A total of 72 examples of the PKP Class EW55 were ever constructed by Pafawag between 1958–1962 and they were all delivered to the Polish State Railways after they were built. When they were built, they had been built with 100% domestic components.
They all entered service after they were constructed between 1958–1962 and they were withdrawn from service until 1995 and its unknown what happened to them afterwards.
They would eventually be the basis for the later Class EN57 electric multiple units.
