The Osaka Metro 10A series was a Japanese city commuter electric multiple unit operated by the Osaka Municipal Transport Bureau and later Osaka Metro from March 2007 to July 2022 on the Midōsuji Line.

History[]

Main article: Osaka Metro 10 series

The 10A series are an upgrade of the 10 series trains in operation on the Midōsuji Line, created by refurbishing sets 1117 through 1126 with newer IGBT variable frequency drives, replacing the older armature chopper control traction systems which were long obsolete by the 2000s. Refurbishment began with set 1123 in 2006; this was complete by March 2007, with the set put back into service on 23 March 2007. Refurbishment of all ten sets was complete by April 2011. Retirements of the sets began in 2019, with scrapping following after. All sets were retired by 4 July 2022. No cars have been preserved.

Design[]

The 10A series sets feature a flat design with two top-mounted headlights. Initially fitted with projector beams, these were changed to orange-colored LED fixtures beginning in 2015.

Specifications[]

Construction is of an aluminum alloy. The sets use Hitachi two-level IGBT systems which produce a hissing noise. Other specifications are identical to the 10 series sets they were converted from.
